Chinese PM to discuss suspended project with the President

"Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang is likely to have friendly discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena who is scheduled to visit China later this month and negotiations with respect to the suspended Colombo Port City Project (CPCP) will be a high priority topic, Ada Derana learns.

Chinese officials are also confident that constructions of the CPCP will be re-commenced soon as it is important to keep the momentum of the large number of Chinese investors up.

The officials say that they are deeply concerned about the suspension of the CPCP and the new Government’s decision would send negative signals among the Chinese investors who intend to invest in Sri Lankan soil.

In a bid to provide more opportunities to locals in the Chinese funded projects in Sri Lanka, the China’s National Development and Reform Commission (CNDRC) has plans to provide a six months training to local workers, it was also reported.

The CNDRC asserted that investment policies of the Sri Lankan Government should be more consistent for the Chinese companies to reconsider when investing in Sri Lanka."
